Customized plug-ins easily developed with agile development methods using Docker containers

Montabaur, 15 April 2020 – iTAC Software AG has "docked" a new solution to its iTAC.MES.Suite manufacturing execution system: the development framework for Workbench plug-ins is now locally available and docker-based. This enables faster, simpler and more resource-efficient development processes.

The iTAC.MES.Suite is a Manufacturing Execution System with adaptable IT architecture and IoT/IIoT capability. It offers various services for the networking, automation and analysis of production processes. The iTAC.Workbench is a browser-based framework for the integration and development of HTML5-compliant applications in the form of plug-in components. The new framework is designed to consolidate the large number of iTAC and customer-specific applications. In this way, iTAC is placing an increased focus on platform independence, flexibility, mobile capability, usability and simple distribution. 

With the new local Docker-based development environment for work¬bench plug-ins, iTAC further simplifies the processes and scope for specific applications. "Container-based applications use significantly less main memory than virtual machines, for example, and can be started and stopped much more quickly. Compared to VMs, Docker Containers work very quickly. Containers can be deployed very quickly, are highly scalable, smaller and more compact than virtual servers. They can be optimally used for micro-services. This makes the development of our plug-ins more agile, resource-saving and effective," explains Peter Bollinger, CEO of iTAC Software AG. 

All components required for development are located in the Docker container. The iTAC.MES.Suite and iTAC.Workbench are executed on the application server as a runtime environment. The developed plug-ins can be tested directly, released for real production after successful testing and finally be integrated into the iTAC.Workbench.
